Move Cost Calculator

A real budget — not a lowball. Movers, closing costs, utility deposits and the settling-in reserve most calculators leave out. Ranges are based on 2024–2025 averages for moves into the Catawba Valley & Charlotte Metro.

All numbers on this page are estimates for planning purposes only — not a binding quote.

Methodology

Long-distance mover estimates blend national van-line rates ($0.55–$0.90 per lb-mile plus $1,200–$2,200 base) with home-size shipping weights from the American Moving & Storage Association. Local moves use 3-mover crews at $45–$65/hr with a standard truck fee. Closing costs assume standard NC buyer costs (title, attorney, transfer, prepaid escrows) at 2–3% of purchase price. Utility deposits reflect Duke Energy, City of Hickory water/sewer, Piedmont Natural Gas, and typical broadband install fees. Actual costs vary — talk to us for a firm plan.
